Ok so I was trying to feature the joke for at least a day but the beautiful blue notes of the nearby orthodox cathedral are ringing and I'm feeling some what inspired.
It's time for another report I think maybe.
My interior design class is fine - actually not nearly as demanding as I'd feared and sort of a gab fest more than a class. I am picking up pearls here and there and can ask any questions I like whenever I like because there is no real syllabus or points which must be covered by any certain time. Its sort of a free for all and I can live with that. It has inspired me to take some real classes though so I'll be looking into that now - thanks to the emboldening laxity of my current lecture series.
My month of travel is coming to a close. Very shortly after the boom was lowered I made a bunch of travel plans for March because I had free time and knew I'd chicken out of taking these trips if I didn't lock it in while I still had some income. Oh yeah and also to see my hubby during a particularly long tour (most importantly)
First was 5 days in Seattle -3 pre-K days with my pops & step mom. Seeing their new neighborhood and fabulous new home, snow shoeing with pops around lake Wenatchee on a glorious bright and clear day, post snow shoe igloo exploration, Pacific Northwest countryside and mountains, THEN a great show by Gingersol at the Tractor (a really cool club) topped off with a wonderful breakfast by pops & step mom then a flight down to LA
Got picked up at the airport by the on again off again sometimes love of my closest friend's life. she told me to look for the most beautiful blues eyes I'd ever seen and some other herculean superlatives of physical description plus a few abstract descriptions of his nature that would jump out at me across the baggage claim, I looked for a hot surfer dude and there he was. Such a gentleman trying to impress the best friend. Had a really wonderful and sunny dream time in LA. My friend has away of making LA seem so appealing - sneaky, no? She keeps me next to the beach and only rarely inland to only the most sweet and inspiring places. Good thing she is moving back to Texas so LA can loose some of its misleading allure. Lots of long talks in our special language to the befuddlement of our dates (sorry) and hair doing and clothes trading and yoga tutorials.
Then back to NYC for home hello, internship (2 days), great Rozzi performance and party and skiing!!! For the first time in 10 ish years and all that time ago I only skied twice. BIG PROPS to my wonderful ski instructors J&B. Especially B for patiently going up and down the same two bunny slopes with me for most of the day. Big ups to the Yodeler, my new best friend in the skiing realm. Big downs to too fast snowboarders who swish past too fast and make me ski too straight and too fast and then pitch myself to the ground in an effort to stop the speeding madness. Overall a great good time and a wonderful way to appreciate the awe inspiring beauty of Vermont. I'd definitely consider another visit to the yodeler. Mustn't forget my mantras "big gentle sloping curves, swish swish, isometrics!"
Then fast packing and off to Texas (sigh!)
SXSW was great fun and tiring and 5 hours of sleep per night average and seeing everyone you love as much as possible and never having enough time and running to the next thing and wanting more of everyone and only remorse being poor planning but there isn't enough planning that could have possibly managed our crazy schedule so a bittersweet leaving. Feeling more pulled that usual to stay because of the babies unkissed and blue bonnets starting to peep out, and finding new favorite places and houses to fix up and so on and so on. And I really didn't take advantage of the wristband near enough. Musical highlights of my limited viewing: Maimou kicked ass and ruled the elephant club ( I, merch girl, sold about 50 of the 5 song EPs - this during SXSW where free CDs abound, people actually wanted to pay for em!), Gignersol, Don Piper (with guest Pam Miller-gorgeous voice), The most excellent Silos, Tracie Bonham with Butch form the Eels!!!!, Madeleine Peyroux with a kick-ass band -Jay Bellerose etc., and many more but not enough. I missed Big Star, Los Lobos, Pattie Griffin, Oso motley (sp?) and others because I wasn't at liberty to stand in hours long lines and was having too much fun running around with my boy and my girls.
Revelations and plans hatched constantly, some of them made it home with me. Luckily the super sad melancholy of leaving the land of sunshine and easy living has been valiantly battled here in NYC with some gorgeous weather and a beautiful little home of my own and a fun crowd at my coffee shop.
I'm back
and I hear the distant whir of the fly wheel eeking into motion.

Three Texas surgeons were playing golf together and
discussing surgeries they had performed.
One of them said, "I'm the best surgeon in Texas. A
concert pianist lost 7 fingers in an accident, I
reattached them, and 8 months later he performed a
private concert for the Queen of England."
One of the others said. "That's nothing. A young man
lost both arms and legs in an accident, I reattached
them, and 2 years later he won a gold medal in the
Olympics decathlon."
The third surgeon said, "You guys are amateurs.
Several years ago a cowboy who was high on cocaine and
alcohol rode a horse head-on into a train traveling 80
miles an hour. All I had left to work with was the
horse's ass and a cowboy hat. Now he's president of
the United States."
thanks for the joke, pops!
