birthday a comin, installment one
Rehearse and rehearse
Every single time it seems!
This June 8th: revel?

Wednesday, May 28, 2003

So it is now only ten days til my birthday. Next weekend is my birthday weekend and I hope that you will all clear your schedules that I may be entertained, toasted, fed, wined dined etc. every second of every moment of the times that will be designated as official parts of my birthday celebration! I will not be completely selfish about this birthday of course for I have a birthday buddy who should also have every luxury and attention paid. I do not mind sharing. think I'm a great sharer. That is the great and closely guarded secret about only children, many of them share superbly for they never had to learn life's harsh lessons in the bosom of their family or participate in any in-home survival of the fittest type struggles. Perhaps this is why "Reality shows" hold no allure for me. But I digress. Birthday is a-comin and if you don't celebrate wildly, with abandon and an open heart you may brood. Especially if your honey is far far away when aforementioned bacchanal kicks in. The good part about a faraway honey is that it extends the celebration much longer with anticipation of honey returned and another little birthday party and maybe special gifts from Europe and chocolates and funny stories. So no need to hum along to my pity song or what have you, All will be well. Get Ready

Inspiring thought from Anne Lamott
"But what gives me the most hope of all is that the more suffering and bullshit there is, the more good you see called forth -- caring, generosity, courage. For awhile, everyone seemed so afraid that they went along while our liberties were being stolen. But recently it's been possible to bank again on the knowledge that the American people really, truly love freedom."

um why is eveything so wide all of a sudden? sorry.
Quick update: I lucked into a non-singing part in a new opera at center for contemporary opera.
Vera of Las Vegas has welcomed me into her hirsute arms thanks entirely to BB (and in small part to a decent interview on my part.)
So first sing thru was quite enlightening-sitting right next to real live opera singers can be a bit loud at times. The biggest adjustment though was getting the schedule and seeing how much I'll be expected to be there. A lot for a trenchcoated duo who only have blocking and eight syllables to learn-I mean just compared to the arias etc. of everyone else. It will be loads of fun-especially figuring out the interrogation scene-which we get to create ourselves! "You said you have stage combat background, right" uh, yea I suppose I do. Then someone else asked me about my marshal arts training (basic only) hmmmm. It will all be fun but looking at the next two months of your life on paper is always humbling or horrifying-you choose.
It also made me feel like a loser with a day job cause the day time rehearsals peppered throughout the schedule were horribly shocking to stumble upon. I'm calculating vacation, personal and sick days in my head versus leaving early, travel time etc. Welcome back to the world grasshopper.
